right at this time one year ago, i was getting in the car to head for the hospital. xavier was supposed to be induced on august 1st, but here we were on july 31, and he was coming without regard for the soccer age cutoff date.
with some assistance from our doc, xavier made it into the world at 6:55 a.m.
i can't believe my baby is one.
he's my little chubba wubba with a round face and dimples in his cheeks. he sometimes sounds like a gorilla ("oooohhh!") and often just stands around calling my name. he toddles around with his arms bent, hands by his ears as if in a hold up. he's been walking for a month now and he learned pretty much on his own, with no prompting from mama or daddy. he can climb almost anything, which can be scary because sometimes i find him standing on top of a table looking so proud of himself. deep down i'm proud of him, too, but my first reaction is to panic that he'll fall and break his neck. he signs for more food and prefers the take and toss sippy cups to the fancy nuby one i bought to transition him from his bottle. he loves to dance and will bop to any tune and any beat, especially the ones that his kuyas make up. his toy of choice is this blue stacking cup and a big glowstick that he uses to stir whatever he imagines is in his blue cup. or he'll choose whatever toy kuya owen is playing with.
xavier, daddy and i love you so much. i am so grateful that i have been there all day, every day to see you grow and change and bring joy to our lives. your kuyas love you so much, too - and they look out for you. i look forward to the goodness you have yet to bring to the world...in the mean time, stay my little chubba wubba for as long as you like. i like eating your round cheeks! happy birthday, xavier!

oh my sweet chubba wubba! last time i weighed him he was 21 pounds on our scale. just 3 pounds shy of kuya owen.
xavier climbs the stairs. and will often let go of the furniture to stand on his own for about 5 seconds at a time. he's EVERYWHERE. and he's heavy...so when i'm trying to keep him on the bed or the couch, i have to heave him back to a safe position so he won't fall off. he's not always happy about that.
xavier waves "hi." he kind of waves at himself and then says "haahh." isaiah says that xavier says hi like a cowboy. hehe. in addition to "hahhh" xavier has been babbling all kinds of sounds. he's going to be talking and walking in no time.
xavier loves dancing to the music. well his dancing is more like bopping...but he loves it. it doesn't matter if it's a song on the radio or one that daddy's band is playing or a silly song that mama made up...he bops. slow, fast...it doesn't matter.
xavier startles easily. it's probably a result of him being at home all the time...he doesn't get the variables he would have gotten if he were with tita jen. when all the guys stood up cheering when the usa tied it up with england in their first game of the world cup, he (along with two other babies) was startled into tears. poor baby!
my favorite thing right now is when i come into the room and xavier gives me his big grin and you can see the dimples in his chubby cheeks. oh how good it is to be home with him!!!

babble babble. roll roll.
"MA! mmmmmmMa! mmmamamamama!"
that's what i hear when xavier is in distress. or hungry. somehow he manages to scoot backwards and get himself stuck under the couch...or a chair...or the piano stool...or between the tv and the toy box. or he tires himself out from scooting and trying to crawl. so he cries out, "mmmamama!"
but he'll say "dadadadadada" all day long when he's happy. he really likes being a part of the conversation. he will let you know that he wants to be included and will reward you with a big chubby grin when you give him attention.
he'll be crawling pretty soon. pulling himself up on the furniture does not seem too far off either.
xavier is all about table food now. i think i could stop feeding him baby food at this point because he'll eat almost anything we eat. now the baby food has become the "side" to his meal. i wish my other boys would be as willing to eat their fruits and veggies.
xavier voluntarily gives me kisses now. i love it. i really don't care how slobbery they are because i just love that he likes to pass them out. and his cheeks are so chubby, it's hard to not kiss them in return!

xavier! i love you, little chubba wubba. he's my round little baby. his head is the same size or bigger than owen's.
xavier can clap his hands. he has been fascinated by his hands for a while now and one day got his hands stuck together. then he took his hands apart. then put them together. apart. together. apart. together. xavier! you are clapping, buddy! so now if you ask him to show you clapping, he does!
i used to be able to set xavier in a sitting position on the floor and he'd be good there for an hour sometimes. seriously, an hour. i could get the kitchen cleaned and dinner done before he realized that he wanted my attention. now he likes to get on his belly to move. he's rolling. everywhere. he can strategically adust the angle of his body so that he can effectively roll to get whatever toy has caught his attention. many times, i have found him caught between the leg of the dining room table and a chair trying to get to a toy under the table. silly baby.
he plants big drooly kisses on my cheek, which is so gross, but i still love it. when i bring his face to my cheek, he plants a big wet one.
his brothers make him laugh ALL the time. i love hearing them laugh together. xavier has a hearty chuckle from his big belly. his big brothers love him so much.
he has been a little fussy lately, and i wonder if he's teething. i always think it's teething, but then he hasn't cut any teeth yet! he has been pretty hungry lately and i think he's on the verge of wanting table food. ground up, of course, but i let him have a taste of vienna sausage (i know, yum! :P) and i think he was just so excited about tasting salt that he ate a whole one! he has been eating fruit and veggie puffs and is getting better at chewing every day.

i weighed xavier on our scale at home the other day. 18 pounds!!! he's not even 6 months old! what am i going to do when he's 20 pounds? he'll be too big for his car seat.
he's eating solids...he's gone through veggies: squash, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, carrots, cauliflower. now he's on fruit: peaches, apples, now bananas...
he's a drooling machine. we're talking 4-5 bibs a day and at least 2 outfits.
i think he wants to crawl. he rolls over onto his belly and kicks his bent legs as if he's going somewhere. kind of looks like he's swimming.
he likes toys now. he'll play with rattles and the hanging toys in his carseat. he loves his exersaucer but always gets frustrated when he's flipping the book back and forth. by far the thing that occupies him the most is his hand. amazing! my hands! he often gets distracted while eating because he'll catch a glimpse of his hand and just start staring at his pudgy little fingers.
there's something about that blue baby comforter. we wrap him up in it at night (don't worry, we make sure he can't pull it over his face) and he's done for 12 hours. he'll squirm for a second, rub his face, stick his thumb in his mouth and then zonk. i love that little guy!
