Me: Are you my Chubby?
Xavier: Yup!
Me: But ARE you chubby?
Xavier: Nope!

Oh how much I love my chubbadoo! He is four years old in a blink. He picks out his clothes and verifies with me that he is, indeed, wearing his own clothes. "I checked, Mom, and it's mine because I saw the FOUR." Yes, Xav, you wear a size 4 except you are growing so fast that you should probably be in a 5.

"Remember a whole time ago?"...

He says that all the time. I love it. He also misses me when I'm gone for twenty minutes. He is the only one who greets me with such enthusiasm: "MAMA! I missed you!" I missed you, too, buddy.

He is such a goof. It's hard to keep a straight face sometimes when he starts getting goofy during nighttime prayers. One of my favorite things about him right now is that he sings during Mass. And loud. Love. It. So cute.

We are working on all of his letters right now. Today was D for "dinosaur."

Xav really loves baby Anthony. Whenever Anthony gets upset he will offer his blanket or his belly button. Wait, did I say belly button? Yes, I did. Anthony comforts himself by rubbing his belly, so it only makes sense in Xav's head that showing kindness comes in the form of offering your belly button. It's so sweet but so inappropriate. I have to stop him sometimes because I don't want Anthony thinking that he can just go around touching other people's belly buttons.

Xavier is really good at drawing. He can mimic a lot of what other people draw, especially if you show him step by step. He also loves being able to hang with the big boys and has a fantastic imagination. Eric has some great stories of playing pretend with Xav. One time he was showing me how to play with his mini figures. He came up with the dialogue and the actions, and when it was time to play he said, "And now it's time for the show." He makes me smile like nothing else.

I think he is going to be a ninja turtle for Halloween.

chubba chubba doo, chubba chubba chubba doo....

at his last doctor's appointment, he found out that he was three feet tall. he made sure to remember. he also made sure he told people.

"i'm three feet tall!" (holding up three fingers)

when owen started altar serving, xav said to me, "one day, if i grow up, can i altar serve like owen?" "of course, buddy. if you grow up." :)

not sure if i documented this, but it must be recorded that Tito Ryan is officially "Tito Tryan". Xav says so.

chubs is such a thick kid. i don't know where he came from. i love his heft and i love that he still cuddles with me and gives me kisses and hugs me all the time. the best is when you don't expect his hugs, but really really need one. he's my little sour patch kid. he can be so naughty but then so sweet.

he can spell his name. he can spell owen's name. he proved it by writing both on his bedsheets. awesome.

3 years old.

he made it to three without becoming a big brother.  my biggest baby.  i love him.  so. much.  my chubby. (except he's not really chubby anymore.)

he worked really hard at being able to get two fingers up to say that he was 2 years old.  and then he had to work at getting 3 fingers up.

what's your name?
"TWO!" (holds up two fingers)
no, what's your NAME?
"xav."
my name....
"xavier aGUStin!" (often accompanied with an enthusiastic jump)
how old are you going to be?
(holds up three fingers)

he would point to his birthday on our calendar.  "that's my birthday, mom. it's a star wars birthday." yes, you had a star wars birthday, chubs.  his birthday was during vbs again this year, but he woke up early, got to open his first present (a star wars lego t-shirt that he promptly changed into), put on his birthday crown and sang along with me as i sang "happy birthday" to my baby baby boy.

a couple months ago, i thought there was no way this kid would be ready to start school in the fall.  then all of a sudden he is speaking in many many sentences...and with reason. "owen is crying because ethan hit him.  but he's okay now because he has no more owwies. he fine."  last week eric told him that he was just so beautiful.  his reply: "i'm not a princess, you know." apparently boys are not allowed to be beautiful.  only princesses who are girls.

he is anxious to learn his letters.  and numbers.  there is no differentiation yet...they are all letters.  it will be interesting to see how much this motivates owen to learn.

my favorite thing right now about xav is that he still gives hugs and kisses with great enthusiasm.  he'll plant a kiss on my cheek.  but kisses always come with...? "HUGS!" and then i get a big two arm hug from my baby boy.  my goodness, i cannot believe he is about to become a big brother.  he's ready.  "oh, mom.  baby anthony is in your belly?" he will be a good big brother, just like his kuyas are to him.

i told xavier the other day that he is not allowed to be as naughty as he is and have the dimples he has.

he is talking so much now! he counts to 14, he kind of knows his abc's, he LOVES to sing.

songs xav likes to sing:
-pokemon theme song
-wild kratts theme song
-hark the herald angels sing

he also likes to grab a light saber or throw on owen's indiana jones gear and hum the respective theme songs. "bum ba bum bum! bum ba buummm..."

he wants to be independent. he wants to put on his own coat and shoes (even though he doesn't know how) and he wants to undress himself (which he can do). you've never seen anyone so excited about changing. i've disappointed him a few times when we've gone to change his diaper and he thought he would get to change his clothes. speaking of diapers...this one might be out of them before the next baby is born. i might actually have a few months of no diapers. i can't imagine it.

one of my favorite things about xavier is that he likes to pretend. it's fun to watch him play with little toys and stuffed animals and know that his imagination is working. another thing i love about him is that he still cuddles with me. thumb in mouth, head on my shoulder. love it.

x. av. i. er.

my naughty little two year old. he brought in his second year with great flair by being super naughty at sunday Mass. eric had taken him out of the church that day and had reported later that xavier was in rare form. oh, xav. i could blame the teething, but you've been teething for a while. if only those last two teeth on the bottom would grow in! i will say this: my arms are much stronger having had to reign in xavier during daily Mass.

xavier is talking much more now. he likes to say, "what hahppen???" with great concern whenever something sounds like it went wrong. my favorite words that he says:

chocolate ("chock-ate")
turtle (extra emphasis on the "t's")
penguin ("pin-gin")
love you ("yah-you")
tito ryan ("ryan!")

he likes to make himself into a xavier sandwich. some of the best parts of my day are when xavier pulls me and eric in with both of his little arms so that we will kiss both his cheeks at the same time. "hug!" he'll say sometimes. he also sometimes gives kisses that last a little too long and he likes to pinch my cheeks until i make a funny raspberry sound. he likes to count my eyebrows.

actually, that's his new thing. counting. if there is more than one, then it should be counted. the problem is that he can only count to two. so all you hear is, "one....two....one....two....one...two!" he would rather you count whatever is in the book than read the actual story to you. i do like how much he likes books. and i like to cuddle with him while i read him a book. he is a good baby to cuddle with. he's thinning out, but he still has is chubby cheeks that are good for squishing.

we're trying to teach him his colors. at first, all colors were blue. green is now the new blue. tito ryan has tried to teach him his colors, too. that was super fun and not frustrating at all for tito ryan. ;)

i really really love this little guy. even if he does scream at me from 6 inches away. he can almost always be comforted by his blanket. "bankie!" here's your blanket. "milk!" here's your milk. "bear!" here's your teddy bear. blanket and bear in one hand. milk gets tucked under the other. thumb goes in mouth and this kid is ready to snuggle up on your shoulder or take a nap.

when you say, "smile, xavier!" he does this:

zay zay says:

"be back, 'kay?" [while holding up his index finger and thumb]

"c'mon!" [gestures with his hand for you to come with him]

"eyes"
[and points to his eyes. this is in response to the question, "xav, where's your nose?" other answers to this question are "belly" and "head."]

"squirrel!" [one of his favorite things to do is to look out our back window and find squirrels in the park.]

"where'd go??" [both palms up at his shoulders, confused look on his face. he could be asking about anything.]

****

this child yells and screams like no other child i have had. i could be sitting right next to him and hi would scream "MOM!" over and over...and over and over...sometimes smacking my face to get my attention. he will also scream if you come near his blanket. his favorite blanket is this large down teal throw. even if you are just touching a corner of it, he will not have it. you canNOT touch xavier's blanket. period. he also needs his personal space. just ask sam. he can tell you about it.

on top of being so noisy, xavier is also VERY strong. it's nearly impossible for me to hold him still in church these days. he'll wrestle and wriggle and push until you almost drop him. (it's just better to feed him all the fruit snacks he wants so he'll stay quiet.) i've watched this kid push isaiah around the living room in a laundry basket. he's so strong!

i've been singing songs to him lately. he chimes in on "i know" and "twinkle twinkle little star." one of our favorite things to do together these days is to draw on paper i've taped onto the wall in dining room. he always demands that i draw a "ba-ball" - which could be a football, basketball or baseball. i just draw all the sports balls i know how to make and he seems satisfied. i draw a picture of him and he waves at it, "HI!!" i also draw pictures of nursery rhymes and kids songs. he was a big fan of the "itsy bitsy spider." whenever i'd try to sing it with him, he'd run to the wall in the dining room so we could sing it by the drawing. i love it when he holds his little arms above his head to be the sun. his arms barely reach over the top of his head! it's so cute! and he claps with great enthusiasm when the song is over.

chubbs. chubba. chubba wubba. zay-zay. xavier.

his little life is just zooming by. he's 18 months old now, and he is my 3rd heaviest baby. right now, i mean. he officially weights 1 pound more than owie. 71st percentile in weight. 50th in height. where did this kid come from??? it has to be all the milk he drinks. there are days where he eats practically nothing but chugs 5 cups of milk. we've been told to cut back.

he walks up the stairs now without holding on to anything. he jumps. sometimes off of things like the fireplace or the couch. he runs. he crawls after you and growls like a tiger. oh no! it's a baby tiger! run from the baby xavier tiger!!!

the great thing about him having 3 older brothers is that they are all eager to announce everything that he does - especially if it's a new thing. "mama, did you know that xavier can walk up the stairs all by himself without holding on?!!" the announcements that they make through bouts of laughter aren't always great to hear. "zay-zay's all wet!!!! hahahahahaha!" why is xav all wet?? "he put his arm in the toilet! hahahahahaha!"

xavier is starting to talk more. the most solid words he has been saying (that come to mind at 12:30 a.m.) have been: mom, bye, eyes (while poking you or himself right in the eye), dad, book, there. recently, he has been saying more:

moh = more
kack = cracker
buh-i-eaah = buzz lightyear

if you can't understand him, he's more than happy to grab you by the hand and drag you to what he wants. when you finally point to it, he will violently make the sign for "more" and then clap when he sees that you get it.

i cannot even handle how chubby his cheeks are and how great they are for planting kisses. he still makes kissy faces until you come give him a kiss. he also gives the BEST hugs. the kind that are strong and where he pats your back as he hugs you. man, i love this kid.
